Trying to save money
I already know how dumb I’m going to sound but I’m still going to say it. 🤣🤣🤣
So my husband and I recently got into a tight financial situation because we had to put our dog down last month. The vet bill was $400 after everything was all said and done, including tests. He had been sick for a while and as animal lovers and Christians it was our duty to do right by him at the end.
On top of that expense my husband is a bit of a spender and still doesn’t understand saving up for items and not just buying them out right. So I’ve started a budget for us. I’ve figured out that for two adults we can easily get by on $200 a month where we live. I’ll make our grocery list and I’ll even go over it with him. Talk about things that we need right now verses wants.
Well the issue is he’ll start adding stuff to the list that’s not really needed (IMO). He gets a cough and needs airborne which isn’t needed or cheap at $17 from Sam’s Club for a 36ct. He’ll take 2-3/day till it’s gone, won’t use the vitamin C we already have in the cabinet.
I started shopping exclusively at Aldi, I did before but now I’m trying to not go to another store at all. Yesterdays example, I bought the Aldi brand Oreos ($1.25) instead of the name brand ($3.50). Aldi brand honey nut cereal ($1.15) vs store brand ($3.49). He was annoyed I didn’t buy the name brand because he likes the name brand. “You said you were buying Oreos.” 🤨 Or, yogurts he eats literally 1-2/day sometimes 3 and it can get expensive. I bought myself coffee creamer (Aldi) as my treat.
He refuses to eat generic with his stuff. But I can cut our grocery bill by 50% buy doing it. I keep telling him it’s just for right now. It’s not going to be forever too. Also, he’ll go out to the store and buy it on his way home from work if I don’t. So then my budget goes completely out the window. 😐
I’m about to start hiding money. Lol.
