Scary moment. Has anyone else ever had or heard of this issue?

Tonight I let my dogs in the backyard to go potty and play as usual, but thank goodness I left the patio door open. We started hearing “screaming” from our boy Max and came outside to see if they our girl Nova was just playing too rough.

From the patio in the dark it looked like one had latched on to the other’s neck so we ran outside and went to separate them, only to realize Max’s tooth was caught in Nova’s collar and they were stuck.

He was screaming in pain and thrashing, which was choking Nova. In the dark I could feel wetness and couldn’t tell if it was saliva, blood, or both.

I yelled for my husband to get scissors to cut off Nova’s collar since the buckle was in Max’s mouth and unreachable, but suddenly they got loose and everyone was free.

My poor babies! Nova’s been so clingy for the last couple hours and Max has been afraid of everything. He went up to Nova at one point and started licking her next like he was apologizing for choking her.

There are a few scratches and red marks but it looks like everyone is ok. No tooth issues or serious neck injuries. And it looks like it was pretty much just saliva.

Here is the collar in case anyone is curious. Just your basic nylon collar with a loop. I’ve never heard of anyone having this issues before so I’m curious if anyone else has.

TL;DR 1 dog’s tooth got caught in the other dog’s collar. Have you ever heard of or seen this before?

Max is the tri-color and Nova is the black one.
