I don’t know where else to post this so I’m posting here. My husband and I need some advice and opinions on this issue.

My husband has been working for a business consultant company since May this year. He works under one woman, who claims to go into other businesses and assesses their needs, then basically takes over for a contracted amount of time to run things and execute business strategies to help that business grow. Including hiring on other staff to help run things. Right now my husband is planted at a chiropractic clinic, working the front desk and helping the chiropractor there with clerical work.

Well, she had promised my husband along with another employee insurance and a pay raise after working for her for 6 months. But the other employee wasn’t getting any insurance and kept asking her questions like “why is the insurance not kicking in yet?” Or “why haven’t we been paid yet?” (Their boss hasn’t been paying them on time, there have been delayed payments for the past two months.) The other employee kept pressing the boss about payments and insurance, but suddenly she decided to put her two weeks in. The boss accepted her resignation immediately.

My husband had been promised a pay raise, to be switched to salary, and insurance starting mid November (6 month mark). Granted, none of this was on paper, which were now kicking ourselves about... but a few other employees have been given some paperwork that outlines things like policies, procedures, pay and insurance, etc.

Already two other women who were supposedly hired on by this boss were not paid for their work for MONTHS. And the boss would avoid answering questions that pertained to insurance and payment.

My husband lately has been told to stay home. He was hired on full time but now his boss tells him not to come into work. That means he won’t get paid for those days.... he’s our only income right now trying to support our family of 3... and this boss is becoming more and more suspicious.

She won’t pay on time. She won’t let my husband come to work full time hours. If anything she is working him a maximum 15-20 hrs a week...

The other (now former) employee has told us that when she was in charge of sending out billing, the boss would tell her to “only pay the priority bills”. The boss has been making so many empty promises, it’s hard to believe anything she says anymore.

What should we do? Along with the obvious choice to quit and find a better job that gives insurance and pays their employees on time.
