Christmas Tree with a 16 Month Old?

So my daughter will be about 16 months around Christmas this year and she’s already pretty good at walking and she’s very curious. I’m sure she’d find a tree with lights and ornaments really interesting, so I’m wondering, at her age, if I should just forego the Christmas tree thing this year, or put one up but with a baby gate around it, or just get a small one and put it somewhere she can’t reach? More seasoned moms who’ve had kiddos that age around the holidays, what are your suggestions? I’m not sure it would feel like Christmas without a tree, but I also wouldn’t want to put her in any danger.
