IUD recommended?

Would an IUD be recommended for a 17 year old? Can it be done? Is it painful? Any side effects? 
*also haven’t had any kids lol

Yes you can get one. I got my Mirena at 20, never been pregnant, and people can get it younger.

I love my mirena iud. I got it because its fda approved to treat heavy periods. It stopped my periods after 4 months! Which i love. Getting it in the entire appt from walking in to out was 10 mins. It felt like intense cramps. Those went away after she took out all the tools. I had bad cramps like stop and breathe for 2 weeks as my only side effect. Those went away. We dont use condoms or pull out and ove never gotten pregnant. I do monthly string checks. Ive used antibiotics and st johns wort oil which effect other hormonal methods but not the iud. I love it! Ive had it about a year and a half now. Wish i had gotten it sooner. I also dont have kids. Kyleena and skyla are smaller iuds made for women without kids if your uterus is smaller.

I am 17 and recently (2 months ago) got my copper IUD (paraguard) and i love it! The insertion was not too bad! It did hurt, though. If you’re looking for a reference of pain.. the only thing i can relate it to is like getting novacaine in your gums when you go to the dentist.. but in your vagina. There were only 2 “pinches” that i felt that we’re followed by cramps which only lasted 10 seconds. I have not had any problems with my IUD. Some spotting & cramping during ovulation. There are some crazy stories out there about IUDs, but If you are looking for a hormone free birth control alternative. The paraguard is for sure the way to go! I got my copper iud because I am sexually active & my BC pills made me depressed & actually crazy. My periods only last 7 days, which is completely normal for me. Can happen but would not recommend. From all I’ve heard of the IUD it’s not something I would even consider. However I suggest talking to you GP to discuss what’s good for you. But as a 17 year old myself it’s not my thing
