Crispy Thanksgiving turkey!

This is the first year my wife and I are spending Thanksgiving alone and I will be preparing the dinner. My family started doing deep fried turkeys about 10 years ago and I absolutely love it. However, I have never done it myself. I'm a little scared to try due to how dangerous it is. I'm also just not sure if I have a safe enough space to fry it. My home is surrounded by trees and bushes.

So, does anyone have any tips on how to get a nice crispy bird WITHOUT using the scary deep fryer?
