How can my boyfriend and I save (especially on groceries) while living off one income?

For about 2 years now my boyfriend and I have been renting a home (that would pretty much be the cost our our mortgage if we owned a home) and by the end of the month money is very tight.

We have a one year old, and really want to expand our family and buy our own home, but we just find it impossible to save! Every time we have a little savings we need it for something.

I notice we spend a lot of food. Eating out is a problem for us because I end up being exhausted that I just don’t feel like cooking. But when I cook, I cook good and a LOT. My boyfriend and I eat a lot and so does our son (we are not overweight at all haha). So we spend a lot of groceries.

I can even really decorate the home we live in because he don’t have that extra money. I never buy any new clothes or anything for myself because of money. We are behind in our bills right now so we’re extra stressed about catching up.

Right now I am basically a stay at home mom. I am trying to run a home daycare to earn some extra money, but no one has signed up with me yet sadly... so we are living off just his income. He’s self employed so some weeks are good, some are amazing, and others are horrible.

Any ideas? Especially when it comes to grocery shopping...I feel like that’s our biggest expense. Plus obviously the eating out. But I feel like if I made cheaper, easier meals (maybe even crock pot meals) I would consistently cook and it won’t cost us a lot.
