Why is everyone bringing up hcg levels a lot ? I’ve been pregnant three times and I’ve only had urine tests done and ultrasounds done. Well and blood work but I was never told what my hcg levels were. Do you only have to get that done for miscarriages? Just curious.

I’ve never knows my levels.... I always find it strange the amount of people who know their levels or have scans at 3 weeks

I wondered too. When I got pregnant 3 years ago they didn’t run those tests so I wasn’t sure if it’s a new thing these days or if these women have a history of miscarriages.

Mine is checked a few times at the beginning of pregnancy since I had two early miscarriages.  I don’t think they check levels unless you’ve had a problem.  They usually just check whether there is HCG present (qualitative) not how much (quantitative).

I know they used my blood to test HcG levels with our first baby (which we later miscarriages) to confirm the pregnancy. They only tested once though, so didn’t track if the HcG was increasing. 
When we got pregnant again they took blood twice to compare HcG levels and make sure they were increasing properly.

Most of the time they’re only done early after miscarriage. Ectopic, chemical, blighted ovum, etc... Usually not done til the first appointment, test checks other stuff too not just hcg. Most never know what the level is lol... 
Sometimes it’s because the mom to be is worrying over hcg being ‘normal’. So they ask for it til dr agrees. I had 3 miscarriages and refused hcg be tested early. I didn’t see my dr til 9 weeks.
