20 Hour labor
Okay so here is my birth story. Currently sitting on the couch re-watching breaking bad while drinking a glass of wine, and I finally have time to share my story.
I went into the hospital 10/15/19 at 2:30 to have be induced. I was 39+2 & 1cm. Things got started fairly quickly. They inserted a cytotec tab to help me get dilated. With this specific medicine, I was able to have one every 4 hours, 4 doses. Well the first 4 hours went by, the contractions started almost immediately after them being placed. So 3ish. At first they weren’t too bad, and then they got pretty unbearable. Around 7:30 my contractions were so consistent, and strong, they didn’t think I would need another dose and could jump right to pitocin. Well she checked me after 4 hours and I had no progression... Within that 4 hours I had 1 dose of fentanyl to ease my pain. So then they decide to use another med called Cervidil. This method was god awful... My nurse showed me and warned me it was going to hurt a bit, but I wasn’t prepared for that. It felt god awful. My mom, mother in law and SO were in the room and each one of them were in tears watching this happen. It was VERY aggressive.
So Cervidil stays in for 12 hours, after I got it I got my epidural (thank god) and I tried to sleep. Well, the epidural is gravitational. I slept on my sides because it’s literally the only kinda comfy way to sleep. I would fall asleep and wake up in agonizing pain on either the left or right side of my body so I was tossing and turning all night.
6 hours after getting the Cervidil around 2:30am ish, the babies heart rate dropped significantly so my nurse ran in and took the Cervidil out then kept moving me side to side trying to get the baby active again. She checked me after she took it out and I was still at a damn 1!! They decided to let me a labor a while and if it happened again I would need meds to slow my contractions down. About an hour after all that my nurse checked me again and I was at a 4!! We were finally making progress. Around 4 am another nurse came in to check on me and asked if my water had already broken, I said no unfortunately not. Well she lifts my blanket up and it was pretty obvious my water had broke. This happened for a few hours in a row, I kept leaking amniotic fluid. They didn’t know my water had completely broken because when they would check everyone said they felt my water bag bulging but it was really a very swollen part of my cervix. So I’m laboring until 7 and I get pitocin. I finally start to dilate and by 11 a nurse came in to check and me and said I would be at 10 if I didn’t have that swollen part of my cervix. (Didn’t make any sense) my mom is with me and asking ALL the questions. So they said we would wait 2 hours and see if the swelling somehow goes down. Well at noon my doctor walked in and checked me. She said I’m ready and I did practice pushes. 8 minutes later,
I pushed my little bean out.
