SUGAR DADDY v.s PROSTITUTION

Okay so let me start off by saying I really do not know much about this. I am doing this strictly out of my response to a video I saw earlier today. I am all for education on this matter. If I am wrong please let me know. I really do feel like I do not understand this and so I would like it explained.

I was scrolling through an app I can't remember which one. And there was a post about a sugar daddy. I remember thinking..."Isn't that kinda the same as Prostitution?" So I then Googled the definition of each.

Sugar Daddy - a rich older man who lavishes gifts on a young woman in return for her company or sexual favors

Prostitution noun - the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment.

So that brings me to my question...Are they different because one is a gift and the other is not? Or are they the same? I honestly want to say there is no difference, but that may just be my opinion and not the truth. So ladies! Help a girl out!
