Epidural and pitocin?

I’m getting induced tonight and I was wondering if they start you on pitocin and then you get epidural? Or can you request to have the epidural before it’s started?

I was induced at 8am and didn’t really feel like an epidural was needed for a few hours. The early parts were uneventful, but I was offered the epi early on. It’s doable.

My hospital would only give an epidural once I was 5+cm. I had pitocin started at 3cm because there was meconium in my water. I think it’s situational and depends on how the hospital works. If you can get the epidural before pitocin, I would. Contractions are so much more painful on pit.

It depends on the anesthesiologist and how busy they are. We started pitocin first but I wasn’t in any pain when I got my epidural like an hour after.

I was started on pitocin w/o the epidural.  They started me slowly at 6a. I didnt get an epidural until I was at 24 mg of pitocin at 4p. Its completely up to you when you get it.
