I used to when I was in an abusive relationship. It was the only thing that showed me that I wasn't crazy and he was gas lighting me. He would say I acted a certain way or was in a yadda yadda mood and that's why he was acting the way he was. But I could go to my journal and read back and see that nothing he said happened that day and so it couldn't possibly be my fault. When my mental health was bad after that I also used journals to figure out triggers I had that would make my depression or anxiety worse, or to just visibly see my mental health cycles and about how long my slumps lasted

When I was depressed I used to keep a journal. Helped me let out a lot of negativity that otherwise festered in my mind.

When I have intense anxiety, I will list every single one of my worries. Sometimes there are honestly 50–then I go through and write how on earth a person could be okay in that situation. By the end I realize that I have a lot to be thankful for.I seriously once was like:-I had a bad dream-I think I heard my cat puke downstairs-I have to renew my health insurance-I don’t want to go to work-my credit card was stolen and I hate paying for gas in person-my handwriting is bad-I can’t stop thinking about *traumatic event from my childhood*And I literally went through and wrote why even if each one of those was true, how I would be okay. And since I’ve been doing that, I don’t need panic attack meds anymore.

After a while, when worries that frequently come up appear in your kind, you remember the advice you wrote yourself and you don’t feel as intense. Plus you can look back and see what you worry about at certain times of the year or when you finally stopped obsessing over a particular thing.

It’s definitely really helpful when u feel like there’s no one to talk to but still need to let things out. I write in mine every once in a while when I’m upset sometimes even when I’m happy. It’s overall a great thing to have when it’s something personal and u don’t want people to judge u.

I do sometimes, I use to every day but now I just do it occasionally. It feel like it really helped me too. I was able to write down my thoughts and it helped calm me down when I was mad. It was like a way to vent. I definitely recommend it

I have a diary. However, I don’t write in first person. I write more vaguely and more about advice to future self. It’s so that when i look back and read it, I remember what happened that day along with some advice I wrote to my future self. Situations can repeat, so rather than writing about my boring day, I just write about problems and what I hope to realize in the future. For example, if someone insulted me and made me feel bad about my being, I would write a little bit about what happened, then write about how I wish people could realize their own self -worth and love themselves regardless of other people’s opinion. This could also help later when people ask you for advice. Not only will you take your own advice, but you can also give it to others.
