Hair dye! What’s the go?

Who is dying hair still? Should I stop now I know I’m pregnant? Is it safe? Reading conflicting info.

My OB has always told me to just wait til 2nd trimester and make sure the salon is well ventilated!

The main concern is if you’re bleaching your scalp where as if you’re just doing high lights or you’re not touching your scalp it’s usually okay. With hair dye the concern is your hormones can make your hair come out a different color than before you were pregnant. But it is always safer to wait until after 12 weeks to do any of this. Such a pain as I’ve got growth coming through with my blue hair 😂.

I dye my hair red and I’m a natural dirty blonde.  My fertility doctor said it’s ok to dye my hair if the dye does not have ammonia in it.  I contacted my hair dresser and she got me a hair dye base without it.  She did warn me that the dye will fade quicker and my “gray age” area won’t look as food.  She is right.... 
going forward I talked to my regular obgyn and they said it’s fine to keep dying my hair ammonia or not.  I think I’ll stick to the non ammonia in my first trimester and switch back over when I’m a couple weeks into my second.

I spoke to my hairdresser on the phone about this yesterday. I dye my hair blonde. She’s recommended that we use foils moving forward instead of full all over tint colour, then it will not be going as close to the scalp. And I’m having some brown notes put through so any regrowth won’t be as obvious. She’s been colouring pregnant women’s hair for 20+ years!

I always wait until 12 weeks but I do dye my hair during my pregnancies! I have had fire truck red hair (naturally dark brown) for 4.5 years now and while the first 12 weeks my hair grows out a ton I think of it as a little break for my hair. I definitely still dye it though.

I’m in the same boat. I had a hair appointment scheduled after 12 weeks and at my first appointment the midwife said “people dye their hair all the time even though it’s not recommended” my husband took that as I should not, I told him I’ll try to wait as long as I can but with the holidays coming up it is going to be hard!!!

So I just went to my doctor today and asked about that as I’m brunette and i bleach my hair blonde and since finding out I’m pregnant I haven’t coloured my hair for fear of the chemicals but my doctor said it’s safe and to just colour my hair, she said she coloured hair all the way through her own pregnancies and said not to be concerned. I seriously need to get my regrowth done so based on what she has said for my own piece of mind I will do it but only once I’m out of the first trimester.
