Failed induction - natural labor or repeat induction?
Has anyone had a failed induction, and been sent home, and went into labor naturally? Did anyone need a second induction?
I had an induction at 39+3, no emergency medical reason, but it was decided that it would be safest if the baby and I were monitored through the beginning stages of labor (rather than laboring at home). I qualified as part of the ARRIVE trial which has to be done before 40 weeks so we did the 39+3.
I had 6 cytotec doses, and it did soften things but no effacement or dilation really. They did a membrane sweep, and then after 24 hours started pitocin and did this for over 12 hours and they got me up to 20 which was as high as they could go for the first 12 hours. They tried a foley bulb- but no one could get it in. They tried three times. I was contracting the whole time - just not productively. So they sent me home.
Clearly he wasn’t ready (and that’s a whole separate guilt ridden post one day) but now I’m wondering if anyone’s had successful natural delivery after failed induction. Now I’m 40 weeks and need to decide if he doesn’t come naturally in the next week or two what I want to do. I really want to avoid a c section if possible - but I don’t know if an induction would work any better the second time.
Just curious if anyone’s gone through this
Thanks!
(Please no obnoxious comments on the “early” induction choice. I assure you I’ve been through enough during it that I left out of this post that I feel bad enough for my choice)
