How much is too much for a destination wedding guest to pay??

None at all. If someone I knew wanted to go somewhere fancy for their wedding and expects me to pay 1000+ they won’t plan on having me attend. That’s just rediculous unless you’re filthy rich. I would never expect anyone to have to pay to come to my wedding.

Depends on who you're inviting. Even 1000 will be too much for some people, especially if you aren't close them. I surely wouldn't spend 1000+ just to go to the wedding of say, a coworker or distant cousin, but I'd do it to go to my sisters.
It really just depends on the finances and the relationship of the people you're inviting

The only way i would pay close to 1,000 to go to a wedding would be if it were my siblings/very close family or my literal best friend. If it were anyone else, no way would I spend that much to be a guest at a wedding

That’s all too much. If someone expected me at their destination wedding, they better be paying for me to get there, or I’m not going. I’d never spend more than $100 to prepare for a wedding

Tbh even if I wanted to go I wouldn't have that kinda cash to spare. We have little to no disposable income. I know a lot of my friends are in the same boat. 
I'm getting married in NY and dont expect most of my friends to have the money to come. It sucks, but that's life. 
Maybe ask the people you plan on inviting how much they can spend and go from there.

I just went to a destination wedding last month in the Caribbean. We spent about $4,000 and it was our very close friends. But we stayed for an entire week and had our own vacation too so it was worth it to have a vacation and see them get married. I think it really depends, it was nice but I probably wouldn't do it again or regularly.

Umm... maybe prices to get places from Canada are just high but I think i would pay up to $1000-1500. It’s not just a wedding for a few hours and you’re leaving. I’m assuming it’s a week long stay at an all inclusive resort. Having said that, we would pay that for a close family member, not anyone distant or a coworker (but I wouldn’t be expected to be invited to their destination wedding anyways).
