Nursing home or hospital?
I'm a newly licensed nurse. (LPN) I just accepted a job at a nursing home where I did a clinical rotation at. This is a full time position and I will be making 19.50/hr which is really good where I live. It's also 5 minutes from my house. I will start orientation tomorrow. However, today I got a call today to set up an interview for a hospital position. This will be 12hr shifts, 3 days/wk and will most likely be a pay cut from the nursing home. It's 35-40 minutes away but as far my LPN career is concerned, it's kinda perfect. It will be on the med surg floor and I'll float to ob/peds which is the field I'm interested in and would like to work in as an RN. I plan to enroll in a bridge program after a year of working as an LPN. I know I don't have the hospital job yet but if I get offered the job, should I take it? And since I literally just got hired at the nursing home, how would I tell them? 😣 At the nursing home, I would have 22 patients on 3-11. The hospital is 6 patients, either 7p- 7a or 7a-7p.
