Can't enlarge photos

Does anyone else have an Android and cannot enlarge photos in private messages? A girl I'm friends with has an iPhone and when I send her a picture she says that she can tap on the photo to view it larger. But when she sends me a photo I can't tap on it. Why can't I do this?
