Experience with Misoprostol?

Question

Found out today I had a missed miscarriage and was prescribed Misoprostol for oral use. I was supposed to be 9 weeks and measured at only 6 with other abnormalities. Anyone had any experience with this medication? How long it takes to start working, etc.?

The bleeding finally started.... 7 hours after taking it. The cramps we unbearable. Diarrhea. Nausea. Chills. Broke down and took a oxycodone. This is, by far, the most awful and painful thing I have ever had to do. We women (and our partners) are so unbelievably strong. I'm ready for this to be over so we can begin to heal.

I took it marginally with my baby at 10 weeks developmentally. I had a horror story with it (basically felt like full on birth contractions and everything) and I ended up needing a d&c anyway. I've heard of other people having great experiences though.

The first time I took it was TERRIBLE. Abdominal pain so bad that I was throwing up. That was 2014. Last year I took it twice. Cramps, heavy bleeding. The only time the cramps actually hurt was when I was passing tissue. It could go either way.

I had a missed miscarriage as well. Supposed to be 9w1d and measured 7w4d. Took the pills orally, had the worst diarrhea I had ever had (sorry for TMI).  Had a few cramps and some spotting. The following day, I had to take them again, but an increased dose and vaginally. Started heavy bleeding after about 6 hours and about 5 hours after that, the worst was over. Sorry you’re going through this.

I did the pills and very glad I did. I will tell you anything you want to know. I inserted vaginally, they said I could do either. The cramps weren't that bad and the bleeding didn't last that long.  I was 8 weeks.

I took it twice and started bleeding like crazy. If I miscarried again I would honestly go straight for a D & C.. I was told of my miscarriage mid July and finally was sent to get the surgery end of August. It was very stressful and emotionally draining to me. Good luck girl ❤️

I found out at 11w6d weeks by baby stopped growing at 8w4d weeks. Took the medication orally and within 30 minutes started bleeding. Took 800mg of ibuprofen prior to taking the pills, had a heating pad on my low back for the next 24 hours, plus essential oils for cramps and I’ll be honest, i expected the pain to be sever (read lots of people’s experiences prior to choosing this option) but I didn’t think it was any worse than any regular period. The Doctor did prescribe a pain medication to be taken If needed at any time but I didn’t not need that as I kept taking 800mg ibuprofen every 6-8 hours and the cramping was min-moderate. I also took the medication at 7pm and tried to sleep shortly after so I am wondering if that may have helped.

I took it vaginally and started bleeding a few hours later. I’m going to be honest, it was terrible. The worst cramps I’ve ever experienced, slight fever, chills, and tons of bleeding. 8 hours after taking it I passed my baby, and then all the symptoms started to decline. I would definitely stay at home with someone with you the whole time, and be prepared to spend a lot of time in the bathroom. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. It’s such a difficult experience mentally, emotionally, and physically.
