I will say that I am not a very emotional person. I do believe I was actually a little depressed at the worst of it, and now I have experience that I might not have ever had otherwise. Cancer may not have had such a drastic effect on me. But I did become more assertive in my personality (though some might say I already was). I started thinking "I don't need to take this" when it came to people bullying me (which tends to happen when someone always tries to be nice). I stopped letting people walk over me, and I started thinking that I deserved more out of my life. While I'm not all that religious, I do believe in God, and am a little sad that at my worst, I didn't turn to Him very much. However, that too has both helped me reaffirm my religion, but also realize that our lives are in our own hands. God gave us the free will to make our own decisions, and while He may guide us, we are our own people. And for those who may not believe in God, they may take a different spiritual experience from going through cancer.
