Is  vitex (chasteberry) safe to take without telling a dr?

No. Its not! It effects your hypothalamus and can cause further issues in your cycle if you take it and dont need it! It's meant only for those with irregular periods. So no, I wouldn't take it without consulting your doc!! It messed my cycle up bad, and my doc got mad at me for 'self medicating'. Herb or not, herbal can interfere with cycles and impede pregnancy if not taken properly or if taken and not needed.

Yes it is safe to take, however you have to make sure Vitex is right for you. If you have a normal menstrual cycle I wouldn’t take it. Vitex helps women regulate their cycle and if you have a normal cycle it can throw you off. There are other supplements you can take as well. Maca root, Evening Primrose oil, Black cohosh they’re all safe to take. I would tell my doctor I’m taking them because it’s not really a secret, they’re no dangerous and your dr isn’t going to demand you stop or anything. If you’re trying to conceive definitely tell your doctor that you’re taking them because I think you’re supposed to stop taking them once you’ve conceived but you have to do it slowly and your doctor will probably tell you how to safely get off the pills.
