Birth Control, Progesterone, & Smoking Oh My!
Okay so about 4 months ago, my partner and I made the decision to start trying to conceive. I was on birth control and decided to stop it right then and there. My doctor had also encouraged me to stop taking birth control because it was ruining my hormone levels.
My progesterone, which should have been at least 150 and is a key hormone in pregnancy was only at 7. She put me on progesterone instead to increase my levels and to also take the place of my birth control (it's 92% effective if taken daily instead of three weeks at a time).
I know she said I need to be on it for at least 6 months for my levels to improve. I've barely been on it for 2 months and I keep getting my hopes up and thinking somehow I'll get pregnant anyway. Everytime I don't get pregnant I just have to tell myself I didn't have enough progesterone to support a healthy pregnancy anyway. But it still sucks. Really bad.
Not only that, I also smoke. I don't smoke a lot, maybe just 5-10 cigarettes a day on average but I've noticed anymore when I light up I start to cramp. Especially if I'm on my period or in my dreaded TWW. I can't help but think it's messing up a possible conception process going on inside me when that happens.
I just want to know if anyone else had to supplement progesterone to help them get pregnant and if anyone else who smokes/used to had any similar issues. (No negative comments please, I don't plan to continue smoking once I become pregnant and I'm already trying to cut back now. It's just very hard.)
