Nitrous Oxide?

Question

Have any women used nitrous oxide during their labor and delivery? How well did it go? Did it help when it was time to delivery? I hear it’s better than the epidural but does it make delivery bareable? Is there any after affects of using it?
I’m just curious because I work in a hospital and just learned about this options for labor and delivery. Tell me your stories. Would love to see if this would be a great option when it’s my time.

I tried it first before epideral and I didn’t like it. It barely took the edge off, I was still in so much pain and it made me feel very light headed. The machine is also very loud which added to stress of trying to relax during contractions. I ended up getting the epideral and it was so much better. I’m sure the experience is different for everyone though.

I had gas and air with all my deliveries. One of them I barely felt a thing, another I felt everything and needed Pethidine too.

It was useless for me, i couldn't breathe at all with it and it just made things worse

I just gave birth yesterday and used it. It helped so much but by the time I was in active labor it didint so anything. You gotta start it while the contractions are still tolerable. If you start it too late it's not gonna have that good of effect. I was able to do nitrate gas then stadol. No epidural!

I used this when i went in monday afternoon and i was already 6cm from the 3cm i was stuck at for a week.. for me i felt like i was breathing in air, Unfortunately it did not work for me.

I gave birth in January and used it. It did absolutely nothing other than make me tired and nauseous. I did end up getting the epidural. That was amazing despite them having to do it twice as the first time it didn't work. Contractions hurt more than the epidural and I felt like a whole new person. And it was nice to get some sleep

It did absolutely nothing for me. I was so hopeful too but it didnt make me feel any different. I also had extreme back labor so the epidural didnt even help my pain. Definitely worth a try though

I wanted to try it for my labor. When I had to get induced I was told the following week the nurses would be trained on it so I missed out! Following this post.

Make sure the hospital your delivering at has it too before being set on it. Many hospitals dont offer it.
