How to dress newborn in winter weather?

Due with my second around New Year’s eve. My son was born early November and very very large so he was quickly moving up through sizes so he was easier to dress come snowstorms etc in January and February. How do you keep a tiny newborn warm during travel in things like that? I know you shouldn’t use coat in car seat but isn’t layering or those super plush fleece bodysuits the same thing? I feel like that’s all I can find for newborns... help?

You need something thin for between baby and the car seat straps. Then you can pile on a blanket, booties, hat, and car seat cover. Use the shower cap style car seat covers (see pic) because those are considered safe, and they also keep baby nice and cocooned. Just be sure to keep face flap up except for maybe quick runs from car to store so the CO2 doesn’t build up in there.

DO NOT put a coat on in the car seat. Buy a car seat cover. Not the one that can be a nursing cover they are very thin but a good car seat cover. They block the wind and cold from baby but you can pull the flap down and see baby too. I loved mine and it came from Walmart. Rule of thumb is always put one more layer on then you have on. So I’m in Minnesota. My daughter is a January snowstorm baby. Car seat cover. Onesie a cute outfit of pants and a long sleeve shirt a hat and maybe a thin blanket in the car seat and she was always fine and plenty warm
