CERVIX OPEN??

Question

I’m 32 weeks pregnant tomorrow with my second. I’ve been having pretty consistent BH contractions. Within the past 4/5 days they’ve really increased. Today I went to the dr and they checked my cervix. Said it was open in the front and towards the baby’s head it’s closed. He ordered an ultrasound for me tomorrow to measure my cervix. Anyone experience this before? Should I be worried?

I had this happen before and it was explained to me you have an inner and outer cervix opening. As long as you inner (towards the babies bead) is closed you’re fine. That one opens when you are dilating. My front opened at 27 weeks and I started getting regular contractions a few weeks after and ended up dilating 3 cm and being 80 percent effaced at 32 weeks so just be a little careful if you start to experience regular cramping

There’s basically two parts of the cervix - the inner os and the outer os. The outer os can start to open and really not be much of a concern. It’s if the inner os starts opening that they watch you more closely because that’s what protects you and baby from infection, etc. Also if your cervix is changing due to contractions, it’s the inner os that changes, not outer. So you’re probably not having cervical changes due to the contractions which is a very good thing!
I started having prodromal contractions at 23 weeks and had magnesium sulfate to stop labor. I essentially got stuck in prodromal labor for 10 weeks until I finally delivered. At 23 weeks, my outer os was slightly dilated but not inner. When I was about 26 weeks my doctor said I was a cm dilated...meaning inner os too. She ordered cervical length ultrasounds every other week to check my cervical length. She said if my cervix was over 2.5cm then I was good and the dilation wasn’t a big deal. My cervix stayed at 4-5cm long until I went into active labor that wouldn’t be stopped at 33 weeks.

Not me personally, but my sister lost her cerclage and her cervix opened at 32 weeks with her last child. They ended up keeping her on bedrest in the hospital until she delivered, she stayed there for 3 weeks. But now her baby girl is a beautiful 3 month old! Good luck, and congrats!!

I have incompetent cervix and it's probably just a few cm.. I had a stitch in my cervix taken out at 35 weeks and I was 4cm dialated but carried to 40+5 when I was induced.. if anything he might give your progesterone shots
