Rainbow poppy

🌟

Remembrance Day nears ever closer and there’s been a bit of a commotion on twitter at the moment over a rainbow poppy in the UK

People have been quick to point out that there’s other colours too such as:

• purple for animals

• white for pacifism

• black for African/Caribbean/Pacific Islanders

The main argument has been that the red poppy is designed to represent all people and there’s no need to have lots of different poppies. There’s also been more derogatory comments about ‘snowflakes being attention seeking’

People have been showing their support for the poppy as a way to support and remember all those who died and served a country that did not support them. In the UK it was only in 1967 that homosexual acts were decriminalised, and in 2003 where the ban on all promotion of homosexuality was lifted. To put this into perspective: both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars has started and in the UK it was still illegal for a teacher to talk to a student about homosexuality, to buy a children’s book on same sex relationships etc

What do you think?
