Is it safe to clean a cat litter box?

I have one cat and I’m currently 16 weeks and 4 days, I don’t have anyone else to clean the litter box, if I use gloves and maybe cover my face while doing it will it be safer? 
His name is socks btw and his ears are always like that lol 😻

I have 3 cats with both pregnancies I just wear gloves when I clean it, you’ll be fine.

Or i’d invest in a self cleaning litter box. I have a cat but she’s an outdoor cat, but my nurse told me to definitly stop cleaning it immediately and give that job to someone else

When I went for my first pregnancy appointment one of the first question the nurse asked me was if I had a cat.(which I thought was a odd question) I then said “yes” then she said I am not allowed to clean the litter box anymore. She explained to me if I had a cut on my hand and some of the cats feces touched the cut some sort of bacteria could travel into my body and hurt or even kill the baby. She then wrote me a doctors note to give to my husband saying I am no longer allowed to clean the litter box lol. 
So if you can find someone to help you clean it or maybe buy one of those self cleaning litter boxes I would do that.

Yes.  You can do it without gloves, just wash your hands.  If you're worried, look up the Toxoplasmosis gondii on YouTube, first video.  Cats only transmit it for two weeks after infected and if you've had cats most of your life, most likely you already have it and are immune.  It's not as big of a deal as most people make it to be.  It can only be taken in through your mouth, too.  Don't worry about a mask.  You'll be fine and so will your baby.

I always clean our litter box. If you do research on toxoplasmosis, 1) it is not airborne, so you don't need to wear a mask, 2) it takes 24 hours for it to become infectious. So as long as you clean it every day at the same time, you're fine. I don't wear gloves, but wearing gloves will take it safer and just wash your hands after, whether or not you use gloves. My cats are also indoor, so that might make a difference. Also, from what I've heard, you have a better chance of getting toxo from uncooked meat than you do cat litter (though that's what I've heard, I haven't actually looked it up).

When I have to do it I double up on gloves and wear a mask. And afterwards will scrub my hands extremely well.
