When do vaginal stitches dissolve?

I’m 5 weeks pp and next week I have my 6 week appointment. I looked “down there” and can still see the stitches. My OB told me they would dissolve but I didn’t think it would take this long. Has anyone had this happen? How long until they go away?

They usually take 4-8 weeks to dissolve. Also depends on the person.

Sometimes they can take a couple of months to dissolve. In that case the doctor will rather just remove them. You can use a warm wet cloth and hold it against the stitches for them to dissolve quicker, if your doctor gives you the go ahead.
