When did you move your child from crib to toddler bed?

My son will be two in January. He sleeps perfectly fine in his crib. He’s in a sleep sack so he’s never tried to climb out and overall loves his bed.
We are currently in the process of TTC #2 and moving. 
I don’t plan on buying a second crib, but I know the new baby (whenever that happens) will spend the first 6 months in our room. 
Trying to decide if I should try and keep him in his bed for as long as possible or if
I should start the transition once he’s comfortable in his new room.

A crib is the safest place for a toddler to sleep until they are climbing out.

My daughter is 2.5 and still in her crib. She is a strong willed energy filled little firecracker so I can't imagine battling her at bedtimes quite yet to stay in a bed so I'm holding out as long as I can.

Try to keep him in his crib as long as you can. BUT if you’re moving I’d suggest transitioning to a toddler bed before that, that way it’s not too many changes at once and he’s overwhelmed. Maybe a few weeks before you move, or even a couple weeks before then. And it would help to make it exciting, like a previous commenter said. That way he looks forward to his new bed and gets excited to try it! 
My girl is a little over 3 and still in her crib. Hasn’t tried getting out yet so we still have time!

It depends on the child. Try to keep them in the crib as long as possible. Move when they start climbing out.

It might be an idea to have him in his new bed in the new place. 
My thinking is you have an opportunity to make the move all about him becoming a big boy and make it really exciting. Either way I definitely recommend doing it before you tell him you are having another baby, it's hard for toddlers to process sharing parents and you don't want him to link the new baby with things being taken away.

I think that this is the best opportunity to move him into a bed since you’re moving. That way you have time before you have your baby on the way and he won’t feel like he’s being kicked out of his current bed because of the baby.
