Baby educational videos?

Our little guy is almost 2 and he refuses to talk. He says a few words but not as much as our older kids were at his age. Are there videos or something that helps encourage talking?

I know some will say “ they talk at their own pace” blah blah blah. But at two, they should talk a lot. Instead of videos, you should call early steps and see if your child qualifies for speech therapy

Please don’t sit your child in front of a screen. 
Read, sing, and talk to them. Call your local school and inquire about speech services. Qualifying kids might receive free services (depending on where you’re located).

Videos don't promote language.  They need 1:1 time. It's been proven in multiple studies.  One instance being deaf parents and normal kiddo, they thought video would help with language,  not the case.

Actually videos are really bad for language skills. They need to be able to see the words formed by a human mouth in order to mimic the movement.

Read to him while he plays. He doesn’t need to sit there and look at the book if it can’t hold his attention but he will be hearing all the words whether he’s “paying attention” or not. Also, don’t give into him without him speaking. We did this with our daughter. She would point for things she wanted and we wouldn’t give it to her unless she used her words, or at least tried or repeated after us.

I'm in the same boat as you my little one turns 2 in two weeks and barely says a word.A couple of months back he would say mom,daddy,bye,baby and would call our dog by his name,now tho is rare to hear him say anything besides daddy or "shh" he does a lot of sounds and babbling but not really full words.I have read to him,repeated words multiple times to him and played educational videos(there's nothing wrong with that)
I've recently played him the videos of a YouTube channel called "Rock and learn" still not saying anything but he does understand a lot. His pediatrician said by 2 years old he should be saying around 20 words and by 2 1/2 he should be saying around 50. Autism has crossed my mind but I refuse to believe it until proven otherwise by his doctor plus like I said he's pretty smart.He was a late crawler and Walker so I'm hoping he's "taking his time". He has an appoinment in a couple of months and will be evaluated and put on speech therapy if necessary. It does make me feel as though maybe I'm failing as a mom but god knows I'm trying and I'm sure you are too,hang in there💕

As a health care provider, I would recommend to avoid electronis. Many previous posters already mentioned this, and just like they said studies/research have proven that videos/tv and ipads result in delay on development due to lack of interaction/need to communicate. Personally, I have a niece who was thought to be deaf for the first 18 months of her life since she would not only not speak, but wouldn't turn around when call or paid attention to directions/commands. Her mom was all about only using "teaching" videos. She would even have one of those ipad carriers for cars while riding in tge carseat. Long story short, she was evaluated even under sedation due to age (and severity of concern) and was found to be normal hearing. She was just delay in development, sure enough therapy caught her back in track and is now an active/talkactive 2 year old. Finally, her mom has cut back in electronics and realized that early childhood is all about exposure to "real" life where all senses should be involve. That is just my personal story, but as a provider I can tell you of multiple cases that are similar or that parents even believe their child is autistic even though is not really the case. I suggets to just read, talk and play and discuss your concern with the pediatrician for more support. 😉😊 you got this mama!!

Ok so I was in the same place as you! My son was also 2! Now he’s 27 months. He couldn’t talk he wouldn’t even say mama! My didn’t make noises nothing. I went to speech therapy with him and all it was is a 6 week course and you go 1  day a week for 1 hour. They tell you describe what you see,talk a lot, give him choices etc... nothing. My son still couldn’t talk or make sounds. I read to him every morning every night I talked that Much my jaw felt like it was on fire. One day my son was eating breakfast in his high chair while I was behind him putting the washing in the machine and all I hear was “Blippy” it’s only the name of the program he was watching and it said “blippy” at the end of the song. I couldn’t believe it. Now like I said he’s 27 months and doesn’t stop talking he can even put 2 words together in English and can also speak a second language (his dads language) plus, don’t stress or feel like your doing anything wrong!! Every child is different❤️

Honestly, I agree with the ladies on here about other methods, but they are not answering your question. I personally found that my boy loves to sing. He responds to nursery rhymes and tv intros with music. When he was a baby, he would only watch little baby bum on loop. Now as a two year old, his favorite shows are puppy dog pals and bluey. They aren’t really educational, but they have good values and good hooks in the songs. Pdp has songs, bluey doesn’t. In any case, maybe try little baby bum nursery rhymes with your toddler. If he gets into it, eventually he might try to sing. I know my boy loves trying to sing, and also follows storylines for his favorite shows now too. He’s always shouting out the names of his characters and pointing to the screen. He loves Bob and Hissy.

My oldest was like that, because he had no reason to. Everyone always responded to his cues and wants. He started speech and began talking immediately. Speech isn’t a bad idea
