What are your Christmas EVE family traditions?

We get all of our “christmases” with family out of the way before Christmas Eve, so we can make sure to keep our traditions going. We go look at Christmas lights together, grab something to eat from the Cotton Patch Cafe always chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and green beans and corn all goodness!! so we don’t have to cook, go home, have some eggnog, and watch as many Christmas movies we can. Can’t wait to have more kids so I can bring back my old Christmas traditions as a kid!

My fiancé’s family has their  Christmas party at noon on Christmas Eve..We eat and exchange gifts and hang out for a bit, then we head home and just enjoy the rest of the day together! 
Later that evening we let the kids open their Christmas pajamas! We make apple cider and hot chocolate, and my fiancé and I may enjoy a glass of wine while the kiddos play. I’ll have some good old fashioned Christmas music playing! Then we make cookies for Santa, watch a Christmas movie, or maybe play a board game..someone always ends up crying or getting mad, lol. 
All of this sounds like it happens so smoothly, buuuut it doesn’t, lmao. I always want everything to turn out perfect, and of course it never does, but I’m thankful it turns out memorable! Love this time of year!

Santa comes early and leaves a new set of pajamas for Xmas eve.
Christmas dvd roulette. Wrap all your Xmas movie dvds in the same wrapping paper. Leave in a basket by the tv and select a random one to watch. (We do this about 3 times a week all of December)
Whoever finds the Christmas pickle in the tree first gets a special treat.
Kids get to open one gift each.
Decorate Xmas cookies.

We go to my Mom’s and spend the whole day there on Christmas Eve!! We eat, make cookies and drink wine, exchange presents, sing Christmas songs, reminisce and we always watch Christmas Vacation!

Xmas Eve: party at grandma's house, tons of food and drinks, and the adults exchange the Secret Santa presents. 
Xmas Day is all about the kids opening presents, hanging out in pijamas, eating cookies and watching movies (aka nursing the Xmas Eve hangover 🤣)

Christmas Eve is party central at my dads house. My stepmom is Italian and to her, Christmas eve is the bigger day. Lots of food, lots of family, lots of wine (none for me this year) and lots of gifts (mainly for the kiddos of course)

we used to ride around different neighborhoods to see how people decorated for christmas. then we would go home to make cookies and hot chocolate and watch christmas movies. before bed we would put the cookies out for santa. all the kids are grown now so that stopped a few years ago lol. can’t wait to start a tradition with my baby girl.

We Celebrate Christmas Eve not really Christmas Day. 
We go over family’s house and have pernil(RoastPork) In our Christmas Pajamas.
We also do games and make ginger bread houses. Then late night before we leave the host house we open the presents they have for us. Then Christmas Day morning we open the gifts that we have at our house and eat leftovers.

When my grandmother was alive, we’d spend Christmas Eve at her house. 
I come from a big Italian/Sicilian family. My grandmother had five kids, and each are married with more than one kid (I have 14 cousins + a handful of 2nd cousins) 
so it was always a full house and I loved it. There was always so much going on. 
We all used to gather at her house to eat a big dinner. Then later into the night, we would open gifts from everyone (each and every person bought gifts for EVERYONE). Then we’d go home and have Christmas the next day with our immediate family. It was my favorite day of the year. 
Now that she’s gone, it’s much quieter. My husband, my daughter, my parents and I 
go to my uncle’s house now, and he has 5 kids who are married with their own kids, so it’s still a lot of people, but not quite the same.. my other aunts and uncles don’t come anymore, mostly because my grandmother isn’t there. She was like the foundation that upheld the tradition. It’s so different now and it makes me sad.

Don’t really have any currently but when I was a kid it was we (kids) would get new pajamas to wear that night, we would normally do something as a family like go see Christmas lights, or if that wasn’t possible a movie.
