Leila & Vance had settled nicely into their New York apartment & were in full swing with their work schedules. Vance had been doing very well at working up the corporate ladder. It helped that his dad was the owner & CEO of the business. Vance was looking at not only manning the North branch but also becoming the co-CEO of the entire company.

James was over competing with his brother & decided to pave his own way. He was still working for his father & brother, but was content working under many people. He decided to pop in & surprise his brother & sister-in-law, but he didn’t travel alone. He visited Leila & Vance along with his girlfriend, Emma.

Vance: James! Is that you?

Vance greeted James with a hug & then looked at Emma.

Vance: James? Who’s this?

Emma: I’m Emma, James’ girlfriend.

Vance: Well, it’s nice to meet you Emma.

After a minute or two of catching up, Leila stood up from her office chair, straightened up her skirt, closed her cardigan to hide her small baby bump & walked over to the commotion.

Vance: This is my beautiful wife, Leila. Leila this is...

Leila: Emma. I heard. Nice to meet you. Hi James.

James: Leila.

Both nod in awkward acknowledgement.

Vance looks at his watch.

Vance: I apologize, but I have to head into a meeting. And it’s all the way on the 40th floor. It was nice meeting you, Emma. James, let’s talk later. We’ll have dinner.

James: See you later.

Vance runs into the elevator just in time.

Leila: I have to get going. I was actually in a phone conference myself.

Leila walks off.

Emma: It was nice meeting you.

Leila pauses & turns halfway to give a forced smile to acknowledge Emma’s statement.

James: Hey sweetie, why don’t you check out the coffee shop downstairs. I’ll meet you in about half an hour. There’s something I have to take care of.

Emma: Ok, I can order some coffee for you.

James: Sure.

Emma kisses James on the cheek as she heads towards the elevators. James walks towards Leila’s office. He knocks & walks inside & closes the door after him.

James: Is your phone conference done?

Leila: There never was a phone conference.

Leila continues typing without looking up at James.

James: Leila, will you please look at me?

James sits down on a chair in front of Leila’s desk. Leila pauses her work & looks at James.

James: Please don’t be upset with me.

Leila: I’m not upset with you. I’m upset with myself for falling in love with you.

James puts his hand over Leila’s hand. Leila quickly moves her hand out from his. She stands up & moves to the window. James follows & stands behind Leila & opens her cardigan & placed his hand over her stomach to where the baby bump is. Leila turns around & faces him. She places her hands on his face. He puts his hand over her hand.

Leila: James, what are we doing? What about Emma?

James: Leila, I was lonely.

Leila: I thought you were going to wait for me.

James: Oh & how long would that be?

Leila: I don’t know, James?

James: I can’t be waiting for you while you’re married to my brother? At least not alone.

Leila: So what are you saying? Are we over?

James: Leila, I will always love you. But we can’t be together.

Leila: What about the twins?

James: Does Vance know?

Leila: No. I haven’t told him.

Leila sits down on the couch & James joins her.

James: When are you going to tell him?

Leila: I don’t even know if I want them.

James: What?

Leila: The doctor said I have options. What do you care. They may not even be yours, James.

James: How do we find that out?

Leila explained the paternity test to James. He agreed to go get tested. If the results came out negative, the babies were definitely Vance’s. If the results came out positive, they were James’ babies for sure.
