How does baby eat food?

Question

I know you have to cut up foods for baby in long finger shapes but how does baby eat those? I don’t want him to stick the entire thing in his mouth and choke. 
Do babies bite off pieces? He only has 1 tooth. 
Also which foods are best to feed baby when you first starting off with food. He’s only had oatmeal. But would like to venture off into food we eat.

Baby very rarely will “choke”. They do gag, but that is different and it’s good. Make sure to know the difference.

If you cut them into the finger shapes, it’s a very low chance they’ll choke on them because the shape is same size/smaller than their throats. If they bite off a bit piece, they’ll most likely gag so it moves the food out of their mouth. My LO gets mostly purées, but we’ve been having fun experimenting with real food! Little pieces of chicken (she LOVES that), banana, raspberries, apple slices, shredded cheese, PB toast, eggs. We’re going to try some corn tonight! 
Sometimes if she doesn’t seem to be eating a lot during the meal (of real food), then I’ll just pull out a jar of purée and give that to her while she continues to play with the food. Honestly the most gratifying part of feeding her real food is watching her motor skills develop! It’s so neat to see them figure out how to pick up little pieces of food, examine it, and then figure out how to get it into their mouth.

Babies don’t need teeth to eat. They will bite or suck off a piece. Gagging is normal. It teaches them proper amount to eat.

Mine always tries to shove the whole thing in his mouth but rarely gets it all in there. If he gets too big of a bite he just spits it out.

he kinda bites or sucks the food. he has 7 teeth but they're all in the front. you dont chew with your front teeth
