Can you eat beef jerky while pregnant?

Just kinda curious I ate 3 bites of some tonight and my mom was like you can't eat that! I've just honestly never heard that. Thoughts??

I would say yes you can, but most people try to avoid it while pregnant because of nitrates in it I believe.

Beef jerky is dried and thus, may contain bacteria - and hence why it’s best to avoid. And it’s also high in salt, which is also bad for you. I personally would simply choose a different snack and avoid the risk.

It’s in the list of things to avoid because of listeria - it is “uncooked” dried out meat, so they say to avoid it like smoked meats/fish and deli meats. I’m sure you’re fine, the chance of listeria is still very low, just higher in those things than other foods
