Breastfeeding and pregnant

I’m 10 weeks pregnant and still breastfeeding my August babe. I’m working on weaning him, didn’t realize it was going to be tough. We’re nursing before nap, bedtime, and once during the night. Anyone else breastfeeding and pregnant? Or weaning in general? Do you have any tips?

So fun story, I had the postpartum then no period due to breast feeding with my little one. Well we got pregnant again with my second. My first was only 5 or 6 months old. No signs of pregnancy, absolutely nothing, I breastfed until I was 30 weeks pregnant because that's when I found out I was pregnant to begin with!!! Doctor said it was completely fine but as a warning she said I should wean so that I wouldn't get contractions! I didnt lose the baby weight so I didnt pop until the end haha. Fun story I think. But yeah she said no worries on breastfeeding as long as when I did my tests that I had good numbers which I did on blood tests.

I weaned my first when at 16 months old when I was 5 months pregnant and just weaned my August babe at 14 months only while being 4 months pregnant. My first was a nightmare to wean lol but I cut out the morning feed by having breakfast ready first thing when she woke up. The nap time feed was the hardest to drop because of the sleep association and took about 3 day’s of crying (1 hour, then 15 minutes, then about 1 minute). Once I cut the nap feed the night time feed was easy because she had already broken the sleep association. I have her about a week between each feeding drop. My second was a bit easier. I did the same process but just faster. I weaned her in about a week total and there were very few tears. You could try having a cup of milk readily available but neither of my girls cared for any type of milk so I gave them water. Good luck.

It’ll be hard but once you break that sleep association it’ll get easier, that’s why I recommend starting with nap time feeds. Plus I’m sure you don’t want to deal with sleepless nights right now. My 3 year old with have a plant based milk in cereal. And my 15 month old absolutely refuses any and all types of milk all together. I’m lactose intolerant and last year we found out our 3 year old has a mild dairy allergy so we only buy plant based milk now, but with the both of them I tried literally every different type of milk and they just didn’t want it. If you’re able to you could try pumping some extra milk to incorporate into a milk of your choice and try and use that to introduce him to milk. I didn’t have much of a supply left so I wasn’t able to try this but a lot of moms I know swear by it. As far as the no milk thing we just give both girls vitamin D drops and incorporate other forms of dairy they can tolerate into their diets, we also give our 3 year old a multivitamin and their doctor has no concern. I hope this helps!

My son is in the exact same boat as your babes, he is fed to sleep and I’m trying to wean him but he will not take any type of milk. Do your girls still not drink milk?

Start mixing milk or formula into half the bottle that’s what I did or get him into a bottle first if he won’t take the bottle

I was breastfeeding when I got pregnant. For me it was a bit easier cause my milk also totally dries up when I become pregnant (it happened with my second pregnancy and first baby as well). It became very painful for me so it was pretty good incentive to wean but I had wanted to let him self wean. My suggestion is to get daddy involved more. That’s what I did with both my babies. He helped more slowly. He would lay down with both of us while I was still nursing at first then slowly I let him hold him when we laid in bed and then eventually just he laid with him and not me. We did it over a couple weeks so it wasn’t super fast or traumatic. But we totally weaned at 14 m and 4.5 m pregnant

I got rid of nap time BF first. Currently trying to wean night and early morning.Work on disassociating BF with sleep.I’ll feed her then brush her teeth then read 2 books then bed. It’s a process. We do whole milk during the day. Had to start with partial BM and whole milk in a cup gradually increase whole milk per every few days.

Currently in the same situation I’m 11 weeks and I go back and forth between wanting to wean him and not wanting to he nurses in the mornings, naps, and bedtime. I’ve just recently got him to stop durning the night but he still wakes up at night. When he gets breakfast though he gets whole milk and sometimes throughout the day.
