Amnio or CVS Testing?

Hi, Just wondering if anyone in this group has gone through amnio or cvs testing? I have one son, almost 3 and currently 9 weeks. I will be 41 when I deliver and meeting with a genetic counselor this week to discuss my options. Thank you!

I did a NIPT at 10 weeks that came back positive for Downs, so I did a CVS to confirm. NIPTs are very reliable, so I would generally start there (esp since my CVS was very unpleasant/uncomfortable—they aren’t always, but the doctor had a hard time negotiating my cervix due to some scar tissue and it ended up really hurting).

I had an NIPT done at 10 weeks and it came back positive for turners syndrome. The only way to get a definitive answer is with an amnio so I did that at 16 weeks. It’s was more mentally taxing than physically painful. It took maybe 3-5 min and it felt like pressure when he penetrated my uterus. It was scary seeing the needle so close to my baby on ultrasound, so maybe don’t watch the screen. It took until 22 weeks to get results and the chromosomes were all normal. I’m 40+4 now just waiting for this girl to make her appearance. I’m 40 and a FTM.

I had an amniocentesis with my first child when i went into early labor. I hated it and found it painful. I declined them in every subsequent pregnancy...just not worth the risk to me.

I’m not doing them as there’s a risk for miscarriage.

I am 45 currently 26 weeks along.   I did have an amniocentesis at my 20 week ultrasound.   It went well with no complications.

The genetic testing is so relianke..like 99.2 percent correct is what I was told when I was 41 n a half n 9 weeks along
I had a healthy pregnancy n my son is great .Congratulations to u...I ll  e 44 in Dec m  still TTC ..2 miscarriages but still trying to regulate my hormones better n get some sleep.May you have an easy 9 mos n I dont think Ull need any needles

I’m only 7 weeks along with first pregnancy but given I’m 43 I imagine will come up. Have you already had nipt and nuchal translucency done?

I’m only 7 weeks (43 yo) but plan on the cvs, though I did ask my ob if I could go with NIPT and if those results were suspect then go ahead with the cvs. He said we could discuss it next week once we confirm baby is growing appropriately.
