Crazy MIL

Elizabeth

Since so many of us seem to have stories about them, here’s mine. My mother-in-law has shared all sorts of boys of “wisdom” with us since our son was born 5 weeks ago, such as not picking up the baby when he cries. Yes, a newborn. Smh. Oh and btw she asks to hold him when she visits. despite us requesting she doesn’t wear perfume, she comes wearing so much you can smell it across the room. So I ask her to just put a swaddle blanket over her shirt, and when she’s done both the blanket and the baby reek like perfume. 🙄

My favorite, though- she keeps telling us about not feeding him at nighttime. She told us not to when he was born (yep you read that correctly), and still says it. She literally called my husband last night to say that we need to not feed him anything at night for the next three so he gets used to it. That’s right, not feed our ONE MONTH OLD with the tiny stomach, who is howling from hunger pretty much every 3-4 hours day and night. Yeah, ok. Thanks for the tip.

Rant over. Feel free to share your cringey stories.
