What is mucus plug

Question

I'm 12 weeks. I see posts all the time. What is it. Why does it come out. Is it supposed to? What do you do of it does??

Answer

It’s basically a huge clump of mucus that helps block the cervix during pregnancy to prevent bacteria from entering. Some women lose it in pieces over a period of weeks, other lose it all at once, and it sort of looks like a glob of greenish tinted snot/discharge. Sometimes its tinted with blood and this is what women refer to as their bloody show. Losing it all at once can mean labor is near but not necessarily since it also regenerates. So if you lose parts of it dont be alarmed.

It’s like a Hardish jellish plug that sits in / on your cervix and stops bacteria/sperm/anything from entering the uterus while your pregnant. You can lose parts of it as you start to dilate as you get closer to delivery. It will just regenerate though, it can be an indication of labour coming but definitely isn’t reliable for that. I lost mine during labour / during pushing.
