Does c-section affect milk coming in?

My first baby was born vaginally and this one will be via c-section. Just wondering if it makes a difference for milk coming in? Do the doctors give you a shot to promote milk production? Thanks for any input :)

Csection can cause a delay in milk due to your body being in shock/trauma from surgery it is a major surgery. Some women don’t have any delay but some women do just depends on your body.

After my c-section I had an over supply but I also was so worried I wouldn't have milk I was drinking the weleda breastfeeding tea. Lol looks like I over did it a bit. Just get some of the tea to take to the hospital and wait to see if you need it or not. I drank it every once in awhile during to 2 years to give my milk a boost and it really is great. Good luck!

It did affect me: despite a planned csection (baby went breech) the trauma of surgery definitely delayed my milk. They were certainly full of milk but despite the help of lactation consultants, pumping etc my milk had a lot of trouble coming out until day 7ish

For me, my second birth was an emergency c section and my milk came in twice as fast (day 2) as my first birth that was vaginal. There are several factors. Make sure to put baby to breast as often as possible in the beginning, it really helps.

Other poster is correct that milk production starts because of the placenta being removed, however they have shown that c-sections can cause a slight delay in your milk coming in. It’s different for everyone. Just be sure to get baby to the breast as soon as possible and lots of skin to skin.
