When do I ask him to stop with the beers so he can drive to hospital?

My man likes his beer. He drinks it every night. He doesn’t get crazy drunk, but last night, had 5 beers...which is too much to drive. I was just thinking, if I go into labor we are screwed because he won’t be able to drive. 
Curious how and if any other mamas have had to deal with this? I don’t want to come across as controlling but at the same time, I feel I need to because taking me to the hospital is his responsibility. I’m 33 weeks tomorrow, should I wait to say anything or what? I’m nervous to bring it up because I don’t want to ruffle any feathers.

I would say something. He should understand. Plus, it's not just the drive (I mean you can cab it worse case) but he needs to be present and supportive through labor which can be long, exhausting and intense. He will need all his wits about him to support you.

If I were in your shoes, I would try to talk to him about it, not only because of the possibility of you going into labor, but also because I’m assuming there will be times when he might be watching baby alone. Emergencies happen and he needs to be in good shape to do some very fast, good decision-making when they do. It’s important to be calm and non-judgmental. People can be defensive about these kinds of conversations so if you can think of a family member or friend who would remain level-headed and be supportive to both of you during the conversation, it might be helpful to have them around to help out if things get a little heated or emotional - just depends on your comfort with that and how you think he might feel about it/react to it. You can also try the saving $$ angle. If he can’t drive, you’ll need an ambulance or at least an Uber or taxi which will be expensive. Good point whoever pointed out he’ll need to be able to care for the baby alone. Same thing — if he’s unable to drive to the hospital with a sick baby, it’ll be an expensive ambulance ride.

My hubby has the odd beer or two in the evening

My husband reaaaaally enjoys his beers too. We’ve talked about it and I asked him not to drink starting January 1, I’m due the 22nd with our third baby and my other two were early. I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I had to just have a frank talk with my husband about it. We live in a legal state so the conversation was also about weed. He's a bit like your guy. Not every night, but especially on the weekends he likes to have some beers and with the holidays around our due date I felt it was necessary. He was initially resistant, but ultimately saw where I was coming from and has been doing a great job. We set Thanksgiving as a stopping date for everything. I hope your guy is receptive! We sacrifice a lot for our pregnancy, he should be able to do the same!

Just be upfront and let him know that you are relying on him to be responsible and drive you to the hospital.... maybe lighten the load and tell him that you don’t mind if he had a beer or two but 5 is unacceptable (this is only if your okay with him drinking a beer or two) But let him know! You have every right to voice your concerns! And if he complains just be like look I have sacrificed a lot of things to carry our child for nearly 9 months including alcohol... I’m sure you could sacrifice a few more weeks! You got this!!
