Stating your beliefs to others?

Question

As an atheist I find it very uncomfortable to tell people that I am, indeed, an atheist. My fiance is a Christian along with his parents. I tried so hard to avoid the inevitable religion talk with his parents. They like many religious people I have this talk to, start bombarding me with questions, like "Do you REALLY believe there is no God?" , "what are you going to do when you two get married?" " is a pastor going to officiate the ceremony?" " you know I would really prefer our grandchildren to be baptized "..... The list goes on. This conversation is always super awkward and uncomfortable for me. I automatically feel attacked and chastised for my beliefs or lack there of. Does anyone else try avoiding these topics at all costs?

I don't avoid it. I gladly accept the fact that I am who I am and no one can change that. It's usually my wife (Christian) who kind of avoids sharing her views because I am quite judgey. I have stopped myself and have tried to be more open but I am the opposite of embareased

I don't avoid the topic because I am not ashamed of being an atheist. I am also a cultural Jew, and it is really rare that Christians try to talk to me about religion because that confuses them or makes me seem like a lost cause. My husband is an atheist too but his family is very Christian and  they do pray and talk about church all the time and we just sort of deal. I'm starting to open up my mouth about it now that we are going to have a baby though.
They force us to pray, and for me it's not a big deal because I am an adult and I understand what's going on there, but a child does not especially a baby or a toddler so I don't want her to be forced to pray and I want her to learn religion from an outside perspective because everyone is born an atheist! But I'm pretty sure they think I am Satan at this point. All hope of them thinking I was a nice girl went out the window when o asked them to get a whooping cough shot for the little one

I try to avoid because I don't want to cause offense to anyone, but if it's pushed I will state my beliefs (of lack of!). My dad recently introduced me to his new girlfriend and she was shocked that I'm an atheist, she asked so many questions and I tried to be polite. My dad is atheist too but I don't think he has told her yet! Most of my family are mildly religious (don't go to church but believe in God) and I so I do get the God talk at times, like when my grandad died (he was atheist but they did a religious funeral) and when I had problems with my first scan everyone was praying for me (and are convinced that they "saved" my baby from abnormalities thru prayer). I hate confrontation and arguments, so I just try to accept them as they are even tho they don't always accept how I am, only a few times have I had to have a proper talk with them. I'm lucky my husband is also an atheist, it helps a lot to be United front!

I avoid it because I just don’t care to have the discussions. You get questioned then for some reason people feel the need to try to change your mind or enlighten you. I just don’t have the patience for it. 
When it comes to family and in laws, they don’t do it to be mean or judge mental. I think they honestly do it because they care. In their mind, religion and god helped them and brings them comfort or peace. They believe that people who don’t believe will be damned and sent to hell when they die and it concerns them because they want to make sure you are happy and go to heaven when you die. 
I was raised catholic and the father of my child is very Christian along with his family. When we see his or my family we do what they want because it’s their home and we respect their beliefs. In our home we do what we want. 
My significant other and I make it work because we both don’t talk about it much and don’t push the other. He can do what he wants and believe what he wants and I’ll support him as he supports me. Our kids learn both sides and when they get older they have the right to choose what they want.

I know the feeling. My boyfriend and I are both atheists. We plan on getting married soon, but the problem is my family is very religious. My uncle is even a Catholic priest. They want it to be in a church and the whole shabang. We don't want anything to do with god mentioned at all. My sister didn't bathtize her two sons and my dad jokes about having my uncle coming over and putting water on his head. I'm not sure if I want kids at all, but my parents said, "It will be up to god." Wtf. No.

I don't exactly avoid it, but I don't say anything unless someone argues with me, or asks my religion. I just say "I'm an atheist" to a wuestion respectfully. However, on the other hand, you argue with me about religion and I'll argue right back. I honestly believe that billions of people are being fed lies by a magic man living in the clouds granting wishes. It's just an elaborate fairy tale. And I'll tell them that with not shame. If they don't say anything bad, I'll respect them and I won't say anything bad. That's that.

I've never tried to hide that I'm an athiest - I don't try to shoehorn it into conversation,  but if the topic of religion comes up or if someone asks I answer honestly.  I know some people are judgemental about it and it alters how they think about me but tbh I don't care much what people like that think and I'm not going to deny or hide a fundamental part of who I am to keep them happy.

Yes, I live in a small town where Christianity is a very big deal. Church is how we socialize out here. So you can imagine it's hard for me to voice my beliefs or lack of. I plan on moving away but for now I just keep to myself and try to find people that feel the same I do about everything and also people that believe in God, but respect my beliefs as much as I do theirs. My family doesn't know I'm an atheist, I feel like their heads might explode if I told them. So I just keep to myself.

I don't go around advertising my beliefs. Mostly because I don't want others doing it either. I don't care what you believe as long as your not a shitty person. But I do enjoy talking about it with rational people. People who are curious or just interested, but the minute they start to get preachy or demeaning or try to convert me, I drop the mic and leave. Lol!
