When I feel it coming on I put ice on it and it goes away. But like you have to really freeze it good. 
If it comes overnight and I didn’t stop it then I’ll use acne cream, it dries it out a lot faster then abreva

Abreva helps and my dermatologist put me in Aclvycor ( something like that ) to stop break outs and it works also.

Valtrex when I feel it coming on and it either prevents it completely or makes them go away fast. I personally like carmex to help with the pain

I take valtrex if I feel them coming. It's an antiviral and helps a lot. Doesnt really have noticeable side effects for me. If you get them often, or it's very bad, you can also take it daily to prevent outbreaks.
