Menstrual migraine?

Question

Anyone had any experience with migraines that are linked with periods? This is the second month in a row that I’ve had a debilitating headache, vomiting, all over body aches and pain, fatigue, light sensitivity etc., but I’ve also had it on and off over the past year or so. Always during the first few days of my period. 
I’ve read up a little bit about what it could be and I’m assuming it’s the drop in oestrogen causing my issue- just wanted to know if this is easy to diagnose and treat? Also any other things it could be from the symptoms?
Been to the doctor and they’ve just said to keep a diary of symptoms for 3 months before anything can be done but I’m literally crying in pain and already dreading next month :(

I've had these ever since starting my period at age 11. Going on 30 years now. Sometimes they are worse, sometimes they are manageable. I find it helps to drink loads of water if you know your period is coming. I usually just try to manage thru it, as I find that pain relief (ibuprofen) works, but has a tendency to raise my blood pressure and makes the whole thing just last longer. I'm afraid to take the migraine medicine the GP gave me given the listed side effects. I find it seems to be a process my body needs to go thru...and really the only thing that helps is sleeping in a dark room and making sure to stay hydrated. If it's any consolation, I didn't suffer from these while pregnant and breastfeeding. Came back about 3 months after stopping with the breastfeeding....good luck, I know how disruptive these migraines can be.

I get them like clockwork about 4 days before my period, and sometimes at ovulation. My dr put me on imitrex and it worked like magic for me. I cried the first time I tried it cuz I was so relieved haha

I have migraines pretty much every period. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, it’s definitely no fun :( best advice I have is to take Advil immediately after symptoms start because if you wait too long it’ll be too late and then you just kinda have to wait it out. That’s one thing my dr told me and has proven to be true. Also, I have found that taking better care of my body throughout the entire month - eating healthier and working out mainly, have really improved my period symptoms as a whole. Also, you may want to cut soy out of your diet. Read up on that. It can cause all sorts of issues in women and both my mom and I have noticed less symptoms since cutting down on it. It’s in everything though so it’s not an easy change but it definitely can be worth it. If nothing seems to help your dr may recommend birth control if you’re not already on it to better manage your hormones or they may recommend a higher strength migraine medication.
