How painful is a colposcopy??

I’m getting one because I had an abnormal pap and I’m so scared because I heard they clip a piece of your cervix 😨😰

They dont "clip" anything. A colposcopy they just open you up with one of those duck bill things then rub vinegar on your cervix which dries cells so they can look at you under a microscope and see if you have abnormal cells. If you do, they may take a biopsy which is not cutting or clipping and isnt painful but may cause some period like cramping from irritating your cervix. 80% of women are exposed to HPV even with the vaccine but any abnormal cells should resolve by themselves by age 30. Dont worry too much

Depends. I had two. The first one I felt a little bit of pressure and could feel them “clip it” or whatever you wanna call it, but it didn’t hurt. The second time, I was under the impression I was going for a Pap smear. I got to the room and did everything I needed to do for a Pap smear, waiting on the doctor to get in there, and the nurse comes back in and says I was scheduled for a biopsy. That one hurt like a bitch and I nearly jumped off the table. They had to give me m&ms to try and bring my blood sugar back up bc I felt like I was going to pass out. I also didn’t have time to mentally prepare the second time, like I did the first.

So I had mine done because of a bad pap. They had to take a biopsy of mine because they seen something they called me and said they needed to redo it, so they redone it and got another biopsy. The first time was awful it was so hot in that room they done it in... and I almost passed out: the second time I had no pain or discomfort. I might add that the first time I was about to start my period and it delayed it for 4 more days. Also be sure to drink water and pee before you do it, that helped the second time. Also the first time it was 8:15am when I had it and I hadn’t ate yet so that could have played a factor in the discomfort.

Just some pressure and cramping after nothing bad! I was terrified at first but it's quick and it just feels like a "click" inside when they take the skin
