Can you develop hypothyroidism after miscarriage ?

Mariela

Hi ladies,

Did any of you develop your issues with your thyroid (including weight gain) AFTER a miscarriage?

I had a missed miscarriage this year. Got a positive pregnancy test on March 28th and viability was in question from when I started spotting in April 5th. It was a long ordeal but long study short, I had to have a D&C on May 28th because my body would not miscarry on its own and I never developed more than a gestational sac. My period came back by the end of June/early July. Since then, my cycles have been off. Coming 3-5 days early, starting with spotting, then light blood, then stopping and then starting again like a normal period (usually on the day I was supposed to get my period to begin with) and then lasting another 4-5 days. So my periods are coming 3-5 days early and lasting way longer, around 8-9 days. I’ve also been incredibly exhausted, with muscle fatigue and joint pain. Sleepy all the time and hard to wake up. Constipated - sometimes for up to 8-9 days at a time. Mild depression (although I had extreme anxiety for 2 months after the miscarriage). Puffy face. Retaining water. And yup, gained weight - despite the fact that I didn’t do anything different from what I was doing pre-pregnancy or pre-miscarriage. I’m at my wits end. I feel disgusting. And my husband and I have not been able to conceive again.

Does this sound like hypothyroidism to you guys? Has anyone else had these issues after a miscarriage? I’m worried I have developed a thyroid issue...I seem to meet nearly all the symptoms (plus it runs in my family - brother has it too).

Thanks so much!!
