Should she ask him?

Ok my homegirl is being chicken so here it is... Ok so my friend has been wanting to go exotic car racing for a month and found a really good deal for the end of this month. She dated this guy for 2 months couple years ago and he hit her up yesterday. They were talking and he mentioned how he’d like to hang with her sometime and he’ll message her sometime. She’ll go to the car racing place by herself if she has to, but she wants to know if she should ask him. He loves exotic cars and he’d be the only other person who’d want to go. I don't know, should she ask or let him initiate contact? She’s want to go as friends
