Raw diet ? Advice?

So basically our 12 week old German Shepherd is just.. a picky eater, right? She stopped eating her food about 2.5 weeks ago, and since then she killed a cat, and just nibbles on her food. Like.. probably 2 bites all day. 
So I posted in the fur babies group, and I got suggestions on what to try, well my husband just thinks we should start a raw diet. Which okay. Cool, we have the money, I have the time to read up on how to do it correctly, let’s go for it. 
I told my best friend cause she as well has a German Shepherd, and this was our convo.

Like what do I do? Also... the husky I’m talking about on YouTube is named Gohan😍 he’s so gorgeous. 
I went to pet smart and I bought the Nutro, and blue wilderness. I waited ALL DAY for her to be hungry enough for me to introduce it, well when I did, she sniffed it. And walked away to her bed. I left it there all day today, and nothing was eaten out of it. 
I had thawed out chicken for tonight’s dinner, and I cut half a piece off of mine (I usually don’t finish it anyways) and I cut it up into small pieces and fed her that and she was so happy. 
I’m just lost at what to do.

PLEASE! Talk to your vet before attempting any raw diets. Raw diets aren't always completely balanced & addre riskier when it comes to diseases. There's a huge debate on them in the veterinary & animal nutrition world. Also, don't feed a grain free diet either. Grain free has been linked to heart issues in breeds like labs & German shepherds. I would recommend trying different dog food brands & NEVER give any table scraps. Table scraps cause dogs to beg & lose interest in their food. It can also be dangerous as many foods we eat are poisonous to them.

Registered vet tech here.. I didn’t read through all the back and forth messages but so I highly highly highly discourage feeding the RAW diet. ESPECIALLY for a growing large breed puppy. This diet does not contain the proper nutrients and amino acids to be considered a proper diet. I have seen so many sick dogs and hospitalized dogs. Please speak to your vet! Not to mention parasites from raw meat. My recommendation would be to wait until puppy is an adult (should be on large breed puppy food right now) and once fully grown if you would like to cook the food- please research something like Hilary’s blend. Which will add all the vitamins and minerals to the food. Please, reconsider the raw diet!

You can do raw diet but be sure to add veggies and or grain to it. Make sure each vitamin and mineral is found in the variety of foods. Just like with feeding the dog pet food you have to buy vitamins to be sure they receive all that they need. There is no right or wrong way to take care of your fur baby as long as you do take care of them.

As long as they get proper nutrition 
Ask a vet for recommendations on how much and what to feed your dog because the breeds differ 
After that you can either just buy it 
Or there is subscription boxes for raw diet.
Dogs tend to love tripe BTW😊

I wish I could have put my dog on a raw diet tbh. My dog just absolutely hated it. If you have the funds and research just go for it, it’s supposed to be better for them anyway. I watch gohan too! Lol

We have 2 Shepard’s, I don’t recommend the raw diet! When we were trying out foods, there were some our pups didn’t care for as much, so we added a little Greek yogurt to it for a little while and slowly weaned them off the yogurt  with their food. We use the whole heartedly brand, it’s amazing!

I have a rott mix who is super picky. we started him on puppy chow then to dog chow. well my boyfriend would every now & then cook eggs & mix it in his food or boiled chicken or boiled hamburger meat & so he thought he needed human food with every meal 🤦‍♀️ well then we bought a bigger house with a bigger yard & figured it was time to get another puppy so he could have someone to play with. we learned that putting both of their food bowls side by side has helped bc he doesn't want our other dog to eat his food 🤣. we still will SOMETIMES add chicken or eggs to his meals but its usually only once or twice a week at most. he does love him some carrots, apples & watermelon too. so he does get a little variety. but not a lot so it doesn't upset his belly. definitely reccomend taking him to the vet though. they're professionals & obviously since you're at a loss of what to do, they will give you suggestions!

What were you feeding before? I agree to switch kibbles.
I home cook our dogs food and it always goes down well. We get pets mince or sometimes chicken mince, add veggies to it and a bit of brown rice. I add an egg once or twice a week too. We put in a tablespoon or two of coconut oil too.

I talked to my vet about a raw diet because of food allergies for my bulldog and she said I could feed him a balanced diet with human food, but I needed to thoroughly cook the meat. She told me it’s extremely dangerous for our dogs to eat raw meat from grocery stores. There is absolutely a difference between dogs hunting in the wild and eating raw and dogs eating “raw” from our grocery stores. My dogs will sometimes skip eating for a meal or two but they will eventually get hungry enough to eat their kibble. Sometimes if I get worried I kix in scrambled eggs or mashed sweet potato with peanut butter to their kibble for a little treat and to encourage them to eat kibble. One of my dogs is on prescription food so she has to eat her kibble, and unfortunately she is the pickiest one. But you will find tips and tricks to make your puppy eat her food. Please make sure you are very well educated on what dogs can and cannot eat before moving things in! My mom also has a dog who was on a grain free diet because her older dog had food allergies and she now has a significant heart issue. She had no idea until she talked to her vet. Please educate yourself the best you can for this sweet pup!

She’s not eating because you keep feeding her table food, I mean... I would walk by a salad to get to a steak.... however the raw meat thing is a huge debate, I am a vet tech... my dr stands against raw diets, introduces bacteria’s, can cause gastroenteritis, salmonella, certain parasites that are cooked out... and if you haven’t been told yet any and all pork is 100% bad for your dog, can and will eventually kill it by shutting down it’s pancreas..... I wouldn’t do raw....and the blue buffalo and all that isn’t necessary either, pick a good dog food and stick with it, don’t change it or give in to table food..(your chicken) Your dog wont starve itself to death
