Is 2 months too young to cry it out?

When is it okay to let baby cry it out when put down for the night or a nap? Is 2 months too young?

I wondered the same thing, and some of the cry it out methods seem too extreme to me. I got a good piece of advice for this from my therapist, who is also a mom of 4 (all grown now). Recognize the cries. If it’s fussing or light crying, you can let it go for a few minutes. However, at this point you know your baby’s cries, and when things are escalating. So if baby is getting distressed or moving towards those hysterical cries, you pushed it too far. They need to know they can rely on you. That really rang true for me and I felt more comfortable with that than some other advice I’ve heard. Would love to hear other opinions, though. We haven’t reached that point yet, mine is 6 weeks 3 days.

It’s recommended to hold off on the Ferber method until the 4-6 month age range if you choose that route. This is bc babies cry when they are in distress and it’s their only way to communicate with us. It also sends healthy messages to their brains to help w development when their cries are being answered. However, a few minutes to finish a task isn’t going to hurt them.

My husband and I have a rule that if she’s still crying after 10 mins, we’ll comfort her. Sometimes ours just needs to be alone to fall asleep and she’s too stimulated and needs alone time to calm down. I felt like a terrible parent at first and then it worked so we kept doing that lol

Yes. Now if you have to use the restroom, shower or need to step away for a few minutes to collect your sanity that’s one thing. But letting your baby cry it out at two months so they sleep is too young in my opinion. They don’t know how to self soothe at two months old, they need your comfort. This world is still big and scary to them, you’re all they know.

My pediatrician says that this is the most important time to over-tend to their needs because it’s when their brain is developing the most & when they are learning to trust.
