DISCLAIMER: I know many people are sensitive to this topic, so take it from me (a very white person) that I understand European is considered white. I’m questioning this stuff because I have only ever been told Scottish growing up! Okay, this might be jumbled but I’ll try to stay consistent.

To begin, my mother and her siblings grew up understanding very little about their ancestry. In fact none of them really care about it! Their mother, my grandma, Grew up in North Dakota/Wyoming area with her parents. Long story short, once when she was little, she found lots of artifacts of her parents hidden in an attic. Her mother basically forced her to NEVER speak of them to anyone! Not to mention, her dad was a very secretive and quiet man who talked little of where he came from. I’m intrigued by this stuff like my grandmother, so she took a DNA test. It was confirmed that she was a large pool of things. She was mostly European, but more Spanish, Greek, and Italian. However, she found someone odd. Her DNA mentioned Asia and Russia as big chunks of her DNA. She had no idea about this, but when she told me, it hit me that in those years, people migrated to the Dakota’s and lived among the Natives. She was also Native American through her results, but not a huge chunk. Also to mention, her mother NEVER wore short sleeves 🤔

To add, my moms dad is lacking in this area too. He does not speak to our family, and if he does, it’s through Facebook sharing political stuff lol. Anyway, my mom knows very little about him culturally.

Once we as an entire family got together and went to a Greek restaurant, and the owner questioned if we were also Greek, to which we responds we don’t know!

Basically my point is here, getting DNA testing is so expensive. Do you have any similar stories? Why brought these questions up by me were the DM’s I received on a different Instagram account after I posted photos of my family. Several people though we were Italian, Greek, Hispanic, east European, and even gentile.

I will share the photos I posted, and give me your opinions? None of my moms siblings are interested in this as well, so it’s so difficult to get them to spit in a tube and send it off 🙄
