High blood sugar?

Question

After I ate lunch ( 6 inch subway, chips & a ginger ale pop) I took my blood sugar & it was 174.. I’ve never had my blood sugar this high. I’ve called my midwife to tell her my sugars have been really high the past week. Does it sound like I have gestational diabetes? Does anyone else have this? I’m 34 weeks

If you don't have it, you shouldn't check it. That sounds normal..
Your supposed to check your blood sugar 2 hours after your first bite.
Mine goes as high as 290, that's gestational diabetes.

I have Gestational diabetes and yes that’s high. I have to walk for 10 minutes after I eat and check my sugars an hour after the first bite of whatever I eat. It should range between 100-139. Just some advice. Hang in there. It sucks right now but after you give birth it will be better. 😊

I have GD. My level needs to be under 140 one hour after eating. I love subway, but the carbs in the bread, chips, and sugar from a soda is way too much for my body to handle. Especially if you aren’t moving and just relaxing after you eat. If you don’t have it, then I wouldn’t worry too much. But it does depend on how soon after eating you checked.

I have GD and my levels are supposed to be under 90 for fasting in the morning and under 120 2 hours after each meal. Watch your carb count. It's the quickest thing to give you high numbers. So with the sub, maybe try whole wheat or no bread at all. Chips and regular pop are an absolute no go for me. They carry a ton of carbs and will make it spike. You can drink Coke Zero or any pop that is a Zero and be fine. All you have to worry about in it is caffeine. Good luck!

I have been type one diabetic for 18 years. From experience 174 is considered high. I aim to be less than 140 after meals with a real goal of never getting above 120. Like said in other comments stay away from high sugary drinks and useless carbs like bread. Sugar drinks will spike you quickly but carbs like bread slowly digest and will hold you higher for longer periods (hours) afterwards.

I have GD and I’m supposed to check 2 hours after each meal. 2 hours after my meals it’s supposed to be under 120. If it’s been after fasting overnight it’s supposed to be under 95

Yes it is high. Everything you ate raised your sugar. After a meal take a 20 minute walk if you can handle it.  Eat more protein which will keep sugars stable and less carbs. Snack on nuts also. Most dietitians recommend to take glucose 2 hours after your 1st bite. Was this when you did your stick. Have a talk with your doctor about your readings. Sound like if they stay high they may recommend a induction. I have GDM and my numbers have been pretty good although I have occasionally pigged out and knew my numbers were going to be high. I am being induced ag 39 weeks.

How long after you ate did you take it? If you start eating at 8pm let’s say you should take it at 10 pm (2 hours after the start of eating)
If you did this and it’s been high yes you could possibly have GD. Some develop it later in pregnancy after passing the test at 28 weeks. You may be able to control it with diet or midwife may recommend meds
