Front Bedroom Dangerous?

We must separate our kids into different bedrooms for safety reasons. One of the bedrooms is by the front yard. My mom has instilled the fear in me that kids sleeping in the front bedroom is super dangerous. What if someone breaks in or some rando shoots? Am I being ridiculous?

Ok, so I have an acquaintance who is for a lack of a better word a criminal, I had my daughter in the front bedroom on the main floor and he said the same thing, it was super unsafe and the worse place for a child’s room. I switched the bedrooms after that.

This makes no sense to me because all the bedrooms in my house growing up faced the front of the house (except the basement ones my dad built later). My kids’ room faces the front, never thought twice about it.

I guess it depends where you live. I live on a dead end street in a small farming community. I’m not overly concerned about drive by shootings.

If you live in a neighborhood that isn’t super great, I definitely wouldn’t give your kid the front bedroom. I also feel like it’s a bit unsafe, but 100% would not judge a family who put their kid in the front!

I have extreme anxiety when it comes to stuff like that and it's a huge fear of mine. My grandfather's first wife and toddler daughter were stabbed to death in a burglary gone wrong. So I'm constantly worried about what if someone breaks in. Our kids room is on the "second floor" (it's a California split, so each floor is like a half floor) and our room is on the third (top floor). So I'm constantly paranoid they reach their rooms before we hear it and hurt them. I wouldn't be able to have the room RIGHT in front of the house. I'd never be able to sleep from fear. They could literally break into their window and boom, there's your kids room. Even with alarm systems they could do harm before you can get to them.

This would be extremely hard with all the places I've lived. My current house is 3 bedrooms, all 3 face towards the front yard. Same for the last 2 places I've lived. I'd personally feel safer with them in the front rooms, as our house as been broken in before and it happened in the back of our house.

i hate that my house is set up with the bedrooms in the front, gives me a lot of anxiety. when we move and build i’m hoping to have two stories and keep the kids upstairs and our master down stairs.

If you don’t have any other options, then just do what you have to do. Maybe look into putting on extra window locks.

I don’t like separate bedrooms either. Maybe you take that bedroom and they have your room? That’s what I would do.
